Eastbound Interstate 70 reopens after closing near Byers due to semi-truck, SUV crash, fire

Eastbound Interstate 70 is open after closing near Byers because of a semi-truck and SUV crash and fire, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The interstate closed at exit 316: U.S. 36 near Byers at mile point 316 around 3:30 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. A semi-truck and an SUV crashed and then caught on fire early Monday morning, according to a 3:54 a.m. X post by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department. The interstate reopened at 6:51 a.m.

There were eight people in the SUV, including children, and they were all taken to the hospital. Two people of unknown age were in critical condition, according to the sheriff. The semi-truck driver was not taken to the hospital.
