DENVER (KDVR) — A sergeant with the Denver Police Department was charged for allegedly pointing a weapon at someone.

On Friday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office filed a menacing charge against Jason Brake, a DPD sergeant.

According to the DA's office, the charge stems from an incident on Oct. 3 on East 96th Avenue in Commerce City, where Brake reportedly pointed a gun at another person. It is unclear if this incident happened while the sergeant was on or off duty.

No further details were released by the DA's office about the incident.

According to Denver police, Brake had been with the department since 1990 and was recently assigned to the DPD Operations Support Section.

Following the incident on Oct. 3, Brake was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation. Due to the felony charge, Brake is now on non-paid administrative leave, according to police.

"The Denver Police Department’s administrative review will begin once the criminal case is adjudicated, which includes the Denver Department of Safety and the Office of the Independent Monitor, a civilian oversight agency. Since the criminal investigation is being conducted by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, DPD is unable to comment further on the case," said Denver police in a press release Friday.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they become available. FOX31 is reaching out for more details.
