Former Bronco 'Big Al' among iHeartMedia layoffs in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — At least two beloved Denver radio personalities will no longer be on the airwaves of KOA Sports, according to a social media post from the employees on Monday.
Alfred "Big Al" Williams, said that he would be stepping away from iHeart, and thanked his coworkers for the experience of working with them and his listeners for their loyalty. Williams has hosted an afternoon show on KOA 850 AM and 94.1 FM since February 2019.
"To my loyal listeners, who tuned in on 94.1 and 850 AM, thank you for being there through every broadcast, for your passion, and for sharing in my love of the game," Williams wrote on X. "Your support has meant the world to me, and I am excited to share that this is not goodbye—I’ll be back soon, stronger and ready to bring you the sports insights and stories you’ve come to expect.
"Thank you for being such an essential part of my journey. I look forward to the next chapter and to reconnecting with each of you soon," he concluded.
Williams, 55, was a linebacker and defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos, where he was part of the Broncos' wins in the 1997 and 1998 Super Bowls. Before that, he played linebacker at the University of Colorado Boulder, ending his career with the Buffaloes with 263 tackles and 35 sacks.
Also departing the station is Denver Broncos insider Brandon Kristzal, who has been with the station since 2015, just days ahead of the Broncos winning Super Bowl 50. He said he, like Big Al, was among the "workforce reduction" at the station on Monday.
"My time at KOA Colorado has been filled with incredible experiences, and I’m especially grateful to (Dave Logan) for recommending me and mentoring me along the way," Kristzal said on X. "It’s been a privilege to contribute to the rich heritage of KOA and its significance in Denver and the Rocky Mountain Region. Being part of Broncos Radio
and serving as the flagship for the Broncos has been a remarkable experience."
The layoffs were not announced by iHeartMedia, but the company announced a restructuring of its workforce during its second-quarter financial call with investors.
