Here’s how the roads look for Monday morning commute around Denver

KDVR Fox 31

DENVER (KDVR) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day was issued Monday for slick roads during the morning commute. Many metro roads are expected to be wet and slushy, while roads at higher elevations could see a few inches of snow.

Over a foot of snow fell overnight on Sunday in some areas of western Colorado, at one point closing Interstate 70 in both directions near Vail Pass.

While accumulation in the mountains and wet conditions are expected to wrap up Monday afternoon, the overnight precipitation could cause problems on the roads for Monday morning commuters.

Here's how the roads look around Denver and toward the mountains on Monday morning, around 6:30 a.m.

Interstate 25

While a slushy mix is falling around Denver, the roads in and out of the city are clear from accumulation, however, they will remain wet throughout the morning.

Although I-70 is reopened, there are still snowy conditions on the interstate. The road itself appears to be cleared, but watch out for potentially icy and wet spots if you are heading in or out of the mountains.

US 6

Snow is sticking just outside of Golden, however, the roads themselves appear to be clear. Meanwhile, the conditions appear to be the same in Lakewood.

The department also said to expect up to half an inch of new snow accumulation in the area.

As of 6 a.m., no roads are closed.

While any accumulation should melt and the snowfall should wrap up by the time many workers head home, another Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued on Wednesday due to snowfall accumulation in the metro. Be sure to stay up to date on the forecast for the week.
