Sheriff's office: Armed man shot twice by Weld County deputy

DENVER (KDVR) — A man was shot by a Weld County deputy after he allegedly discharged his firearm.

At 12:16 a.m., the Weld County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County. The area is just west of U.S. Route 85 and the Greeley-Weld County Airport.

When officers arrived, deputies said they encountered an adult man who was armed with a firearm. The sheriff's office said the man discharged the firearm and a deputy responded, firing his weapon and hitting the man twice.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

The man was taken to a local hospital for gunshot injuries. The sheriff's office said he is expected to survive.

The sheriff's office said there is no further threat to the public.

The 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will now investigate the shooting. Anyone who has information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Michael Shea at 970-350-9676.
