KDVR Fox 31

DENVER (KDVR) — A new study found the most and least safest cities in America, and three Colorado cities made the lower end of the list.

WalletHub compared almost 200 cities to determine where people feel the safest in the U.S. This study based safety on where Americans feel most "secure," which includes factors like traffic deaths and assaults per capita to the unemployment rate and percentage of the uninsured population.

The study looked at some of the state's biggest cities like Aurora, Colorado Springs and Denver. Here's where they rank in safety across the country.

Most, least safe cities in the US

The list ranges from the safest city, South Burlington, Vermont, to the least safe city, Memphis, Tennessee, which sits at the bottom of the list at No. 182.

The three Colorado cities sit on the lower half of the list, with Aurora ranking higher than Denver and Colorado Springs. Aurora, No. 115, ranked better for its home, safety and natural disaster scores.

Meanwhile, Colorado Springs, No. 157, was listed on the higher end of the most financially safe places in the country but lower than Aurora in home and community safety. Denver, No. 161, ranked as the least safest Colorado city, with some of the lowest home and community safety in the country.

While the Colorado cities rank on the lower end of the list, they still rank higher than some major cities around the county. Aurora ranks higher in safety than cities like Salt Lake City, Chicago and New York City, while Colorado Springs and Denver are considered safer than cities like Los Angeles and Dallas.
