Sky High News

The West Grand football team went to Rangely Oct. 4 and came home with a hard fought Western Slope League win over the Panthers, 24-14. Offensive penalties, turnovers and missed opportunities with great field position plagued the Mustangs throughout the game.

The defense was called upon to save the day and they responded.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Mustangs scored on a Blake Terryberry 21-yard tackle breaking run. His pass to tight end Jackson Steinle on the conversion made it 8-0.

After multiple exchanges, the Panthers capitalized on a Mustang fumble setting them up near midfield. An onside kick recovered by Rangely excited the home team, but the Mustang defense held and the half ended.

Three plays later Terryberry had a 5-yard touchdown run and added a two point run to make it 16-6. The Panthers responded quickly with three passes to score with four minutes left in the quarter, making it 16-14.

The Mustangs responded with a seven-play drive featuring a 30-yard reception by Probst and some nifty running by Cooper Martinson, finishing with a 7-yard touchdown run. Terryberry added a two point run to make it 24-14.
