KDVR Fox 31

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver's first snow of the year usually falls by mid-October, but for trick-or-treaters looking to go door-to-door to collect candy, it doesn't normally snow on Halloween.

Based on National Weather Service records, it has only snowed on 22 Denver Halloweens since 1882, leaving about a 12% chance of snow, historically. In recent years, Denver has only seen trace amounts of snow in 2018 and 2007. The last measurable snowfall was on Halloween in 2002 with 1.2 inches.

While it hasn't snowed on Halloween in years, the first snow in Denver usually comes around mid-October. On average, the first day of measurable snowfall comes on Oct. 18. In 2023, Denver's first big snowstorm occurred on Oct. 28, totaling 5.3 inches three days before Halloween.
