Broncos Tyler Badie still being evaluated after Sunday back injury, Sean Payton says

Denver Post

Tyler Badie is back in Denver after a scary back injury Sunday afternoon against the New York Jets.

The Broncos running back was evaluated at a New York-area hospital after being immobilized on a backboard and carted to the locker room following a first-quarter injury.

He did not travel back with the team on the charter after the game, but was on a commercial flight home later in the evening along with Broncos staff that stayed with him.

“We’re still evaluating him now. He’s doing better,” Payton said on his Monday conference call with reporters. “Everyone that’s reached out, we appreciate the concerns. Fortunately, he was able to come back before the day ended.”

Badie was injured on a play in which Jets linebacker Quincy Williams put a direct shot with his helmet onto Badie’s lower back/side area. Badie fumbled and as he hit the ground the front of his face mask dragged on the ground briefly. He got up and walked off the field slowly on his own, but a short time later went to the ground on the Broncos’ sideline and ended up flat on his back being attended to by medical personnel.
