Rémi Cabral’s breakout season with Colorado Rapids 2 is getting rewarded.
The MLS NEXT Pro Best XI forward, who finished in a three-way tie as the league’s top goal-scorer in 2023, has signed a first-team contract with the Rapids, the club announced Wednesday. The 24-year-old will be immediately loaned to defending USL champions Phoenix Rising for the 2024 season.
His contract is for one year, plus a club option for one additional year.
Cabral becomes the fourth Rapids 2 player to sign a first-team contract this offseason, joining homegrowns Adam Beaudry, Oliver Larraz and Sebastian Anderson.
After arriving in Colorado in February of 2023, Cabral played a major role in Rapids 2 finishing atop the Western Conference with a 23-5 record. He started 18 of his 22 appearances, tallying 19 goals, including a hat trick on decision day.
He also recorded one assist on the way to the conference finals, where the team lost in a penalty kick shootout to eventual champions Austin FC II.
