DENVER (KDVR) — The start of spring has come and gone and Denver weather is still varying between sunny and 70s to freezing and snowy.

While the weather is still mixing between winter and summer temperatures, the ever-changing forecast of hot one day and freezing the next will soon be gone.

When is summer?

The summer season can be defined in a few different ways. Meteorological summer, which is just a way that meteorologists put the seasons together to keep records similar each month, starts June 1.

Meanwhile, astronomical summer starts even later.

Astronomical seasons are represented by the Earth’s position relative to the sun, which begins on June 20 this year. While this is about two months away, the feeling of summer isn't too far off.

When will it feel like summer?

The temperatures for the end of this week are heading into the upper 70s. As for the full feeling of summer, Denver isn't "there" just yet, according to Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels.

Even with the warm weather to end the workweek, cooler days are still ahead.

Next week, it will dip into the 50s, and as for mid-April, snow isn't out of the question for the rest of the month.

At the end of April, the average temperature will be 65 degrees, according to Michels. Then, the temperature average through May will bump up another 10 degrees, with temperatures ranging from 65 to 78 degrees.

While Denver was slow to hit 70 degrees this year, the warm weather isn't early or late, Michels said. It will be an average year for timing, and the feeling of summer should come by May.

Michels still expects a few more cooldowns before May, then the weather will warm up and stay comfy throughout the night.
