Aurora police officers shot and killed a man who officials say was suspected of shooting a victim in the leg on Saturday night, according to a briefing by Aurora Police Chief Heather R. Morris posted on X.
Around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of East 14th Avenue and Clinton Street, according to the brief. A victim had been shot in the leg and the suspect was leaving the scene in a red Ford Mustang, officials say.
Officers pursued the vehicle and lost track of the suspect before returning to the scene. The suspect, a man armed with a gun, also returned to the scene around 7:53 p.m., according to Aurora police. Two officers shot the man, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced deceased, officials say. It is unclear whether the suspect shot at the officers, Morris said.
The man’s identity is not publicly available at this time.
“We really grieve for the families. Despite whatever happened out here this evening, there is a loss of life, and any loss of life is important,” Morris said in the briefing.
The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team and Aurora Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting. The officers involved are on administrative leave.
