DENVER (KDVR) — After a stagnant weather pattern the past month, Denver's weather will become more interesting starting Friday.

Pinpoint Weather, Colorado’s Most Accurate Forecast is tracking rain for lower elevations and some snow accumulation in the mountains.

Rainfall will be highest south of Interstate 70 through this weekend.

The highest snow accumulation will be in southwest Colorado.

Weather tonight: Mostly cloudy and mostly dry

Colorado will have quiet weather over most of the state tonight, although there may be a stray shower in the Eastern Plains early in the night. The northern mountains near Steamboat Springs will be the best location to see occasional rain and snow showers overnight.

It will be breezy as well. Expect southwest winds around 15-25 mph. Temperatures fall into the middle 40s for metro Denver

Weather tomorrow: Windy with afternoon precipitation

Friday will be a much cooler day. Highs only reach the upper 50s and low 60s. The area begins the day dry in the lower elevation. That changes in the late afternoon when rain showers begin to move in. The best areas for rain will be south of I-70.

Mountain locations will see a mix of rain and snow showers in the late afternoon and into the evening. Winds remain elevated; starting from the southwest before turning to the north around 15-30 mph.

Looking ahead: Dry and warm weather will return next week

Saturday will be one of the coolest days we've seen since April. Highs in Denver will likely only be in the middle 50s. Showers and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder are expected, with the best location to see rain south of I-70.

We'll dry out starting Sunday. Temperatures rebound to the middle 60s. Next week sees a return of the 70s and sunshine as another extended dry stretch begins.
