DENVER (KDVR) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for Friday as snow moves into the Denver weather forecast, leading to difficult travel through the evening and overnight hours.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect through early Saturday morning.

Snowfall will pick up after sunset, accumulating between 2-6 inches, with isolated totals greater than 6 inches possible in persistent bands of snow. Areas above 9,000 feet will pick up 3-10 inches of snow, alongside winds gusting as high as 35 mph, adding to difficult travel.

Weather tonight: Snow showers

On Friday night, snow showers will pick up, mostly between sunset and sunrise. Snowfall totals in the metro will be between 2-3 inches. The Palmer Divide could see 3-4 inches, the foothills 2-6 inches and the mountains between 2-12 inches.

Low temperatures will fall to the teens, increasing the chance for slick road conditions through early Saturday morning.

Weather tomorrow: Morning fog, then sunshine

Saturday, snow showers will end early. The day will start with areas of fog, followed by fast clearing and afternoon sunshine.

Temperatures will stay on the chilly side, only reaching a high in the upper 30s.

Looking ahead: Sunshine, warmer

Sunday, sunshine and warmer weather move into the forecast.

Highs will climb to the lower 50s, which is about 5 degrees warmer than normal. This pattern continues on Presidents Day, with highs in Denver closer to 60 degrees.

Tuesday is on track to be the warmest day of the week with a high in the mid-60s. That's almost 20 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year and closer to the record of 73 degrees set in 2017.

More clouds will move in on Wednesday ahead of a system that will bring the chance for showers Wednesday night into Thursday.
