Fire sparks near I-70 in Summit County north of Frisco

DENVER (KDVR) — Multiple crews were responding to a wildfire that sparked near Interstate 70 in Summit County on Wednesday, sending a plume of smoke into the air that was visible to motorists, and sometimes blowing over the highway.

According to Summit Fire and EMS, the wildfire is above the Meadow Creek trailhead, off of I-70 near Frisco. The agency said fire danger was very high on Wednesday.

The area is part of the White River National Forest, which is under Stage 1 fire restrictions, which prohibits all open fires outside of permanent fire rings in designated campgrounds, or backyard campfires with ember screens equipped.

Agencies responding included the Summit County Sheriff's Office, Summit Fire and EMS, Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service - White River National Forest.

First responders are asking that citizens do not call 911 for this fire as crews are on scene.
