DENVER (KDVR) —The first measurable snow of the season in many parts of Colorado caused several roads to close for safety reasons in the eastern part of the state, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The road closures came as the area was hit with heavy snowfall. The National Weather Service reported that several towns in the eastern plains received at least half a foot of snow or more.
As of 12 p.m., the following roads were closed, according to CDOT:
- Eastbound I-70 between E-470 and U.S. Highway 24 west of Limon
- Westbound I-70 between Burlington and U.S. Highway 40 west of Limon
- Eastbound U.S. Highway 36 between Interstate 70 in Byers and Last Chance
- Both directions of U.S. 36 between Last Chance and the Kansas state line
- Both directions of Colorado Highway 59 between Kit Carson and Haxtun.
- Both directions of Colorado Highway 94 between Johnson Road and U.S. 40
- Both directions of Colorado Highway 71 between CO 94 and Limon
People can check CDOT's tool COtrip for up-to-date information on all road closures and conditions across the state.
