Granby’s “halfway pathway” will reach its destination in the fall this year, at long last.

The sidewalk that runs along U.S. Highway 40 ends right next to the Grand Elk Golf Course maintenance building. It was unable to be finished due to a shortage in funding. It was given the name “halfway pathway” by residents because of its abrupt stop.

However, according to Granby Town Manager Ted Cherry the construction is scheduled to be completed in September.

The pathway’s completion in 2024 is partially thanks to some federal funding that was approved in 2022, awarding the project approximately $1.3 million. Construction of the sidewalk will connect Kaibab Park to City Market, which is Granby’s only grocery store.

The town has been working on the path since at least 2013. In December 2022 the town got an estimate of $1.75 million to complete the pathway. The remaining balance for the project not covered by grants or other funding sources was paid out of the town’s capital improvements fund, according to Cherry.

Completion of the pathway will also better connect the Fraser to Granby Trail, which currently runs from Kaibab Park to Fraser by running along roads in the Grand Elk neighborhood until it reaches Thompson Road and U.S. 40.
