DENVER (KDVR) — The heavy snow that fell on Thursday, March 14 made some big impacts across the metro and Front Range, but it wasn't on track to set records in Denver.

On the same exact dates, March 13-14, 2021, a snowstorm moved through the state. Similar to this year's storm, it was an upslope event that enhanced snowfall totals.

Temperatures for that event stayed near freezing, which also helped to bring in heavy and wet snow. But one of the differences between 2024 and 2021 is that strong wind gusts reached 50 mph and fast wind gusts contributed to blizzard conditions on the road.

The 2021 snow event also set records for snow and liquid moisture. Event totals for March 13-14, 2021, reached 27.1 inches in Denver, with higher totals in the foothills and snow drifts reaching 3-7 feet.

The March 13-14, 2021, snowstorm is on the record books as Denver's second-largest snowfall total from a March storm. It was only beat out by a storm from March 17-19, 2003, which produced 31.8 inches of snow in Denver.
