DENVER (KDVR) — Several metro-area fire departments will conduct a large-scale mass casualty training starting Monday.
There will be an increased fire and police presence in Thornton, but there is no cause for alarm.
According to the city of Thornton, the training will happen on multiple days from Monday through Friday, Nov. 8 in the area of 9065 Grant St. The area is adjacent to HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge hospital.
The departments involved in the training include:
- Adams County Fire Rescue
- Greater Brighton Fire District
- North Metro Fire Rescue
- South Adams County Fire Department with Platte Valley Ambulance
- City of Thornton Fire Department
- City of Westminster Fire Department
"This training intends to build a multi-department event simulating the response of auto aid companies responding to a mass casualty incident, possibly involving the simulation of an active shooter. Training will incorporate responding to scene, formulating an incident action plan, use of triage team leader, transportation team leader, scene set-up, and management," said the city of Thornton in an email to FOX31.
The city said the departments have notified nearby businesses of the presence. Residents in the area should also be aware of the presence and know it is only a training exercise.
"Please pardon any inconvenience this training may cause," the city said.
