A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of vehicular assault after running over a person in Littleton and fleeing the scene, police said.

Rene Cook, 47, was involved in a minor car crash Monday that escalated into an argument with the other driver, according to a news release from the Littleton Police Department.

When the other driver — who has not been identified by police — got out of their car, Cook ran them over and fled the scene, police said in the release.

Littleton police responded to reports of the crash around 8 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Broadway and West Powers Avenue, according to the release.

Police said Cook was arrested later that day on suspicion of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident, but no charges had officially been filed as of Wednesday morning.

Cook is scheduled to appear in Arapahoe County court Friday morning for a filing of charges hearing, according to court records. The 47-year-old is currently being held on a $50,000 bail in Arapahoe County jail.

South Metro Fire Rescue paramedics took the hit-and-run victim to the hospital in “critical condition,” police said. No update on the victim’s condition was available Wednesday.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
