The North Sky Trail has opened north of Boulder and west of U.S. 36 after beginning construction in June of 2023.
The 3.5-mile trail is now available to hikers, bicyclists and equestrians for recreational use.
The construction of the trail has been a collaborative effort between Boulder Open Space and Mountains Parks as well as many community volunteers. The trail allows for a new connection between Boulder’s Foothills North Trail and the Joder Ranch near the U.S. 36 and Neva Road.

“OSMP extends its deep gratitude to community organizations and community members who have volunteered their time to help build the new trail. Since trail construction began in June of last year, hundreds of volunteers have donated more than 4,500 hours of their time to build the new trail.” the department stated in a news release.
With the opening of the trail, the city wants to make residents aware of regulations. No dogs will be permitted on the trail between May 1 to July 31, but are permitted from Aug. 1 through April 30 as long as they are on leash. No e-bikes will be permitted on the trail and there is no off-trail access.
Open Space staff and park rangers will be available to the beginning of the trail to answer questions and encourage responsible recreation practices. Officials are encouraging trailgoers to visit bouldercolorado.gov/locations/trail/search/trail to plan their visit and receive more information.
