A former police detective was found guilty on child pornography charges in Arapahoe County on Thursday, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
After a four-day-trial, Jerry Stinnett, 65, was found guilty on two felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child for possession of pornographic material and more than 20 video items, according to court documents.
Stinnett is a former Cherry Hills Village detective and worked in law enforcement for two decades prior to retiring in 2013.
In July 2020, according to the release, the internet service provider Yahoo! filed a CyberTip report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, disclosing that one of its users uploaded and shared child pornography.
The NCMEC obtained an IP address and tracked the computer’s location to Colorado. In October 2020, the Colorado Springs Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force submitted a federal subpoena to obtain specific subscriber information, linking the IP address to Stinnett’s home in Aurora.
A search warrant executed by the Aurora Police Department revealed multiple computers, tablets and cell phones containing three dozen sexually explicit images and videos of children.
Stinnett was arrested in March 2022 with a $10,000 bond, according to court documents. His trial began on March 25, 2024 and lasted through March 28. His sentence hearing is scheduled for July 5.
