Rockies 6, Rangers 6
Wednesday at Salt River Fields

On the mound: Kyle Freeland said he had a terrific offseason and he’s proving it early in camp. Making his second Cactus League start, the lefty allowed just one hit — an Adolis García solo home run — over through three innings. Freeland walked one and struck out five. Over five spring innings, he’s allowed one hit, one run and one walk with six Ks. … Right-hander Tyler Kinley, battling Justin Lawrence for the closer’s job, pitched another scoreless inning Wednesday. Over three innings, Kinley has yet to allow a run, while giving up just one hit and two walks while fanning four. … Lawrence has not fared as well. He gave up two runs on three hits in an inning of work Wednesday and now has a 6.75 spring ERA.

At the plate: Gold Glove center fielder Brenton Doyle concentrated on his offense during the offseason and so far, at least, it’s paid off. Doyle hit 1-for-3 Wednesday and is batting .421 (8 for 19) in the Cactus League, drawing two walks and striking out four times. … Brendan Rodgers stayed hot, going 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs. He’s hitting .353 (6 for 17).

Prospect watch: Outfielder Jordan Beck drew a walk and scored a run. He’s opening some eyes with his spring performance at the plate and in the field. He’s hitting .500 with a 1.329 OPS.

Injury update. Starting left fielder Nolan Jones played just one inning before departing with a tight lower back. The move was considered precautionary and Jones is expected to return quickly.

Up next: Royals at Rockies, 1:10 p.m. Thursday

Rockies probable pitcher: RHP Cal Quantrill
