A Tragic Loss

The Colorado Rockies' television crew faced an incredibly difficult day on Monday as they mourned the sudden loss of their technical manager, Alex Milinkov. The 29-year-old tragically passed away in a home accident on Sunday in Castle Rock.

Remembering Alex Milinkov

Alex Milinkov was more than just a colleague; he was a beloved figure in the world of sports telecasts. According to his employer, Al Boileau, owner and president of Ultimate Productions, Milinkov had worked the Rockies-Phillies telecast on Sunday afternoon and was scheduled to work the Rockies' game against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.

“He was an amazing young man who had taken the industry by storm,” Boileau said. “Just a devastating loss.”

A Versatile Talent

Milinkov wore many hats in his role. He contributed to telecasts for various sports, including the NHL's Las Vegas Golden Knights and NBA games featuring the Denver Nuggets. Plans were in place for him to serve as the technical manager for the Broncos' preseason telecasts for 9NEWS this summer.

Boileau highlighted Milinkov's extensive skill set: “He was our technical ears and eyes onsite to make sure everything goes well. He knew all the positions. He could do audio, run camera, shade the cameras with video. He could do it all.”

Tribute from Drew Goodman

Rockies’ TV play-by-play announcer Drew Goodman paid tribute to Milinkov during the game broadcast on Monday, acknowledging his invaluable contributions and the void his passing leaves behind.

A Leader and Friend

Milinkov was not only known for his technical expertise but also for his character and leadership. “He was a very large man not only in his presence but in his character and his charm and his wit,” Boileau said. “If someone was down or there was an issue, he was the guy who would bring a little wit and humor and get everybody’s focus back on track. He was a leader in every facet.”

Survived by His Family

Milinkov leaves behind his wife, Emma, and their two young children. A GoFundMe page has been established to support his family during this challenging time.

A Community in Shock

The news of Milinkov's untimely death has left a profound impact on both the local and broader sports community. “It’s just shock and disbelief,” Boileau expressed. “He was a very sought-after person because he was such a great human being, he was so personable and he was eager and extremely knowledgeable. I trained him as a tech manager early, and then he just walked right past me with his knowledge. It's been a difficult day for all of us."

The legacy of Alex Milinkov will undoubtedly endure through the countless lives he touched and the many broadcasts that benefited from his expertise and kindness.
