DENVER (KDVR) — Teenager Remi Cordova was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder related to a shooting that happened in 2021, the Denver District Attorney's Office announced in a press release Friday.

On Feb. 20, 2021, Cordova shot and killed Pamela Cabriales, 32, with an AR-15 after a fender bender near Colfax Avenue and Interstate 25. Cordova was 14 at the time of the incident.

Cordova was charged and tried as an adult due to the severity of the crime.

He will be sentenced on Dec. 12 and due to his status as a juvenile at the time, will face a maximum of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years.

The attempted first-degree murder charge was due to the location of a driver of another vehicle who was stopped directly behind the car of Cabriales. That driver was uninjured in the shooting.

“I am very grateful to the jury for returning this just verdict, which I hope will provide some comfort and a sense of justice to everyone who knew and loved Pamela Cabriales. This was an entirely senseless and cold-blooded murder, for which Remi Cordova is now being held accountable,” said District Attorney Beth McCann.

The codefendant in the shooting, who served as the getaway driver, was sentenced to 35 years in prison in June of 2023.
