DENVER (KDVR) — Coloradans will have the opportunity to get into the holiday spirit and see the U.S. Capitol's Christmas tree as it travels from Alaska to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building.
The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has become an annual tradition with a tree selected from a different national forest every year. The 2024 tree will come from Alaska's National Forests -- the Chugach and Tongass Forests.
In order to travel from the non-contiguous state to the nation's Capitol, the tree will embark on an eleven-city tour, known as the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Whistlestop Tour.
"The tree’s 4,000-mile journey from Wrangell, Alaska, to the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building will kick off on Oct. 30. Over three weeks, the tour will travel to the “Lower 48” by sea and then by truck from the Pacific coast of the United States all the way to the eastern seaboard," according to the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree's website.
During the tour, the tree will be in Colorado on Nov. 10-11.
According to the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, the tour will stop at Cabela's on 2424 U.S.-6 in Grand Junction on Nov. 10 from 3-5 p.m. On Nov. 11, Veterans Day, the tree will be at the Ranch Events Complex at 5280 Arena Cir. in Loveland from 4-7 p.m.
Aside from seeing the "People's Tree," those who stop by the two local events will have the opportunity to sign the side of the uniquely Alaskan trailer, purchase U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree souvenirs from Alaska Geographic, collect free stickers and pins and partake in holiday festivities.
This year marks the 54th tour from a national forest to the nation's Capitol.
