DENVER, CO (KDVR) — As we draw closer to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5 many voters have questions, especially about voting by mail.

The Denver Elections Division told FOX31 there are 468,877 registered voters in Denver. Many have questions about the voting process.

Voters should consider the time before the deadlines in regard to ensuring their ballots arrive on time.

“It has to be in our possession; can’t put it in the mailbox on the 5th expecting that we’re going to grab it,” explained Lopez.

Ballots not placed in the mail in time can be taken to a walk-in voting center or one of 45 drop boxes in Denver.

“They are monitored, they are secure and we empty them out at least two times a day by a bipartisan team,” said Lopez.

Lopez told FOX31 that any voter who does not receive an expected ballot should contact the Elections Division and a replacement will be sent immediately.

“Make sure you do that before Oct. 28; after the 28th if you haven’t received your ballot, just visit a vote center,” said Lopez.

Ballots that are damaged should not be submitted.

“If you spilled coffee on it or it was damaged in any kind of way you can get a replacement all you have to do is call 720-913-VOTE,” said Lopez.

The Problem Solvers also asked Lopez about how well the system is protected against voter fraud.

“It is very secure and it is safe to vote in our election, there is no fraud in our elections and that’s what we pride ourselves in,” he said.

Lopez explained the tracking process and how the integrity of the system is maintained.

"Everything that we do is in bipartisan teams, every step of the way — the life of your ballot all the way to when it’s counted; we also test our equipment before for accuracy that it’s tabulating correctly and we do an audit after,” said Lopez.

Voters can sign up to track their ballots, with updates that can be sent to your phone or email.

If more than one person is voting in your household make sure that you sign your own ballot. Voting deadlines and contact information are available on every Colorado county's election website.
