BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Vandals spray-painted antisemitic messages on several buildings and sidewalks on the University of Colorado Boulder campus overnight.
Campus police said it happened in the early morning hours.
“There had been tags scattered throughout CU’s campus. We have predictions that they’re in the range of 20-25. And they’re scattered all over from the north side to the south side,” said Jake Stone, a student.
The university immediately reached out to Jewish student groups to let them know about the vandalism. Restoration crews spent Friday afternoon and evening power washing the spray paint and scrubbing stone and concrete.
“We have about 10,000 students who live on campus and certainly walking by a scene where there are some disturbing messages and messages that might not make them feel welcome is a concern,” said Nicole Mueksch, a campus spokesperson.
The University of Colorado Boulder police department is investigating, and they encourage anyone with information on the crimes to contact them immediately or leave an anonymous tip on their website.
“It’s pretty disheartening and pretty disgusting, if I’m going to be honest with you,” Stone said. “Blatant acts of vandalism that specifically target a community on CU Boulder’s campus just shouldn’t be acceptable. Especially a year removed from October 7th,” he added.
“The CU Jewish community has been under enough stress and strain as it is, trying to just be normal college students and get our work done and keep our head above water. And to arrive on campus to this level of hate and targeting is just unacceptable,” Stone said.
