DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II was taken out of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers after suffering a concussion.

Surtain was injured in a collision with Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey early in the game.

An evaluation was conducted and before the first quarter ended Surtain was ruled out for the rest of the game.

While details about the severity of the injury are unknown, the protocol for a player to return to action generally takes at least several days and sometimes several weeks.

This means it's unclear if Surtain will be able to play in the Broncos' Thursday night matchup in New Orleans against the Saints.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
