The Colorado Avalanche injury bug appears to be contagious.

Devon Toews will not play Monday night against his former team, the New York Islanders, at Ball Arena. He’s out with a lower-body injury, a team spokesman said.

Calvin de Haan is also not going to play against the Islanders, but he is a healthy scratch. Oliver Kylington and and John Ludvig will make their Avalanche debuts against New York in place of Toews and de Haan.

Toews will be the fifth core player for the Avalanche to miss time already this season. Forwards Gabe Landeskog (knee), Artturi Lehkonen (shoudler) and Valeri Nichushkin (suspension) will all not make their season debut until at least November.

Jonathan Drouin (upper body) was injured during the season opener Wednesday night in Las Vegas. Those five core players have a combined salary cap hit of $27.375 million this season.
